オーデコ AuxDeco

タイトルだけ読むとなんじゃこりゃ、となるだろう。

これは株式会社アイプラスプラスと東京大学舘研究室とが共同開発した視覚障害者用の認識システムである。

タイトルのオーデコとはもちろんおでこ、つまり額のことを指す。視覚情報を電気刺激により額への触覚情報へ変換し、障害者がそれをもとに周囲の状況を認識できるというシステムである。装置を額につけるだけで使用でき、適切な訓練を受けるだけ(計20時間)で障害物を避けることができるようになり、外科手術は必要のない視覚代行システムになる。

この装置で行っていることはおもに２つ。
１．視覚情報から輪郭だけを抽出する画像変換する
２．時間変化する情報を強調するたの時間的バンドパスフィルタリングを行う
ことである。そしてその情報を額につけた装置に送り、額に電気刺激を与えるわけである。

例えば、目の前をボールが右から左へ飛んでいくとする、そうすると、自分の額に右から左へと電気刺激が与えられるわけだ。

全盲の人の視覚代行システムとしてはいくらか前に脳に直接デバイスを埋め込み、カメラの画像情報を脳に送ることで認識させるシステムの研究がなされていたのを聞いたことがあるが、これはそのような大掛かりなことをすることなく、気軽に使えそうなシステムだという感がある。

問題としては、額の触覚解像力は4.0 ないし6.3mmであり、このため額に与える刺激点の個数は512個程度と決まってしまう。このためあまり複雑な環境では、解像度が足りなくなってしまうようである。

When you read the title, you will think its weird.

This is a system for the visually impaired to recognize the srround, which EyePlusPlus Inc. and Tachi laboratory in the university of Tokyo co-developed.

The name AuxDeco in the title means the forehead(in japanese forehead is ODEKO). The system change visual information to tactual information as electrical stimulus to the forehead, and the visually impaired can recognize how is the sorround by that information. People can use this system by equipped on forehead, and people become to avoid the obstacle on the road by undertaking 20-hour training. This system isn't needed a surgery.

The system do 2 two main things.
1. Image conversion for extracting the edge of shape from the camera view.
2. Temporal bandpass filtering exaggerate the temporaly changed information.
After these the information are changed to the electrical information.

For example, When a ball pass by from left to right in front of someone with the device, he/she percieves the stimulas on the forehead from left to right.

I have heard an in-plantable device into the blain as the alternative vision system for visually inpaired. But this system is different from that, and people can use with light heart.
